Applications are invited for the full-time, permanent post of Lecturer in Biochemistry, School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, at the University of Galway.

Biochemistry is a key subject area/unit in the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences.  The School has a strong international reputation for excellence in both teaching and research, and innovation in research-led teaching.

Major research themes in biochemistry include the areas of apoptosis (www.apoptosis.ie), biomolecular and biomedical sciences, chromosome biology (www.chromosome.ie), genetics and genomics, glycobiology, protein biochemistry and biotechnology, structural biology, as well as science education (for further information, please see https://www.universityofgalway.ie/science-engineering/schoolofbiologicalandchemicalsciences/research/).  The research area of the applicant will have to align clearly to one of the four research sections of the school

  • - Sustainable world;
  • - Infectious disease;
  • - Molecular biosciences
  • - Cellular and molecular medicines

The school has close links with the principal research institutes of the University, including the newly founded Institute for Health Discovery and Innovation (IHDI), as well as world-leading Science Foundation Ireland Research Centres such as CURAM and Insight.

The lecturer will be located within the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, which hosts programmes and pathways in Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biopharmaceutical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Genetics/Genomics, Medicinal Chemistry, MedTech, Microbiology, and Plant and Agri bioscience.

Located in the West of Ireland, Galway is a highly stimulating environment and a global hub for medical device companies. Furthermore, Ireland is host to a large and vibrant biopharmaceutical industry. Graduate recruitment to industry is strong and collaborative industry-academia research is encouraged.

Salary: €62,376 to €99,508p.a (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)
