British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for an exceptional Head of Polar Estates join Polar Operations Senior management Team.  BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. We employ experts from many different professions to carry out our Science as well as keep the lights on, feed the research and support teams and keep everyone safe!

You’ll be joining our Polar Operations Senior Management Team

You’ll help us to deliver world class science & operations at our Antarctic research stations.

Within the role, there will be an opportunity to develop engineering, safety, and environmental best practice. This role delivers safety critical operations in some of the most challenging environments on Earth, at the limits of human and equipment performance.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the Polar estates group as a united team in order to deliver BAS’ strategic objectives by providing the management and guidance necessary to support success and safeguard our reputation.
  • Be the driving force in delivering safe, environmentally sound and sustainable infrastructure, ensuring that BAS has an effective long-term view of estates.
  • Keep abreast of relevant regulatory and sector developments to ensure maximum use is made of appropriate technology to deliver coherent solutions to issues.
  • Ensure effective communication at all levels that allows positive engagement with all stakeholders.

For the role of Head of Polar Estates, we are looking for somebody who has:

  • HNC/HND in a construction / engineering industry qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Able to demonstrate practical experience of project management of large infrastructure projects or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience of Polar Infrastructure
  • Ability to respond quickly to change and encourage others to engage in the change process
