Project Description:
Achieving meaningful sustainability outcomes requires combining technological innovation with strategic experimentation. In this effort, the 6G-VERSUS project stands out as a pioneering initiative, utilizing advanced 6G research facilities across Europe to push the boundaries of sustainable technology. Through carefully designed trials and pilots, 6G-VERSUS will tackle key challenges within five environmentally focused industries. The project introduces a fresh approach by adapting existing use cases into 6G applications: the Vertical App (V-App), Network App (N-App), and AI-assisted App (AI-App). This three-part model optimizes 6G system data and control planes, enabling smooth information exchange and streamlined decision-making. Supported by six 6G platforms throughout Europe, the 6G-VERSUS project seeks to showcase the profound sustainable, economic, and societal benefits of 6G technology, advancing toward a more sustainable and prosperous future.
To help us achieve the outcomes of the 6G-VERSUS project we are recruiting a PhD candidate. The successful PhD candidate will be required to undertake research for a doctoral thesis while assisting the R&D in the 6G-VERSUS project which is a large multi-partner European Commission-funded project on the experimentation of 6G towards promoting sustainable technology in industry. The candidate will be part of a University of Bradford research team who will be developing the validation and evaluation framework for the 6G-VERSUS project. In this context, the candidate will be required to formulate an impact assessment framework consisting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Value Indicators (KVIs) which are underpinned by Sustainability and Circular Economy (SCE) principles to perform an assessment of the 6G-VERSUS trails and use-case implementation.
While doing this, the candidate will be expected to align the R&D work in the project to their PhD research and thesis. This will include developing a systematic approach and framework to assess the validity and reliability of the 6G-VERSUS technical components, trails and use-case experiments. It involves defining the criteria and standards, and the Key Performance and Value Indicators for evaluating the effectiveness and impact of the 6G technology in terms of promoting sustainability across different vertical industry sectors. The work will involve working with multiple industry partners and stakeholders who are part of the project to collect and analyse data and to assess how well the technology meets the sustainability and circular economy principles. Therefore, the role will involve leading the development of the validation and evaluation goals and objectives ensuring they are specific, measurable, achievable, and financially viable; determining the criteria and standards for the evaluation; and defining the methods to collect data for the evaluation, including surveys, interviews, workshops, focus groups, metrics, technical and financial measurements.
