The opportunity

The Screen School at London College of Communication is looking to recruit a Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Film and Screen Studies course.

Our BA (Hons) Film and Screen Studies course combines a rigorous academic framework with creative practice designed to develop innovators in film programming, curation, and distribution. The course has a commitment to social justice with an ethical compass to foster meaningful dialogue and inclusive engagement through film. There is a curatorial emphasis with a student-led Screen festival integrated into the final major project of the course.

The successful candidate will lead and manage the delivery, development, assessment, quality, and recruitment, and participate in the delivery of teaching. The appointed candidate will work primarily under the direction of the Programme Director of Film and Television and alongside Course Leaders, as well as contributing to School, College and University initiatives including research.

About you

We are looking for an academic with knowledge and experience to lead and deliver our film and screen studies course. Preferably educated to PhD level, you will have research and experience of teaching the history, theory and criticism of film and screen studies at undergraduate level. It is desirable that you have experience of supervising final-year research dissertations and have experience in curating screen practices.

You will demonstrate an ability to teach and motivate a diverse student population to think creatively and critically and guide them to further research or professional careers. You will promote relationships with professional organisations to provide students with access for networking, collaborative opportunities for research and employability liaisons.

The successful candidate should possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, manage and work alongside full and part time staff. Candidates should demonstrate subject knowledge, as well as skills relevant to subject development within an academic, research and professional context.
