Technical Research Support in Sustainable Energy Materials

Location: White City campus, in person 100%

About the role:

This role involved providing technical research supervision for a large and interdisciplinary group working in sustainable energy materials.

What you would be doing:

The sustainable energy materials lead by Professor Titirici located in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London in seeking a technical research manager (Level 3) for a large, diverse and multidisciplinary group working in energy materials.

This role will support, in priority, research in the areas of:

1. materials synthesis; 
2. batteries manufacturing and testing
3. catalysts for H₂ generation and fuel cells and
4. catalysts for CO₂ and N₂ reduction. 

Your role will be to act as the main point of contact for DIGIBAT for aspects related to the running of DIGIBAT and the peripheral instruments. Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• overseeing the commissioning, installation, operation and maintenance of DIGIBAT.
• overseeing the safety of the DIGIBAT laboratory, as well as the safety of the activities taking place in the laboratory.
• leading the training of users - external and internal (incl. students, researchers and industrialists).
• working with the DigiFAB project manager, ATLAS management and DIGIBAT management board to set-up and maintain online resources related to DIGIBAT (i.e. booking system, website/social media, electronic lab book, laboratory protocols, data management).
• helping in reviewing proposals submitted to get access to DIGIBAR.

The successful candidate will have:

• a Master/PhD degree in Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• experience working in a chemical research laboratory
• experience operating and maintaining analytical or spectroscopic instruments
• experience performing chemical synthesis or materials synthesis and `electrochemistry
• experience working with at least 3 of the following families of instruments: thermal analysers; spectrophotometers; X-ray diffractometer; NMR; scattering techniques; electrochemical techniques
• experience writing safety operating procedures or equivalent
• knowledge of chemical laboratory safety and COSHH regulations
• knowledge of at least 2 of the following areas: carbon materials, hydrothermal processing; porous materials electrochemical cells development; material characterisation techniques.

Experience in operating high-throughput chemical synthesis platforms, handling gas cylinder and working with electronic notebook is desirable but not essential. A PhD degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field is desired but not essential.
