We are the University of Cumbria, for and from Cumbria and our localities, rooted in serving our communities, with people, place and partnership at our heart.
Now is a very exciting time to be joining us because we are delivering a new "Towards 2030" strategic plan focused on making the most of our three most valuable assets; People, Place and Partnerships, to become a catalyst for economic well-being for our region, nationally and internationally.
Student Support is based within the Directorate of Student Services. Its specialist teams provide high quality services and support to diverse learners through multi-campus locations and online programmes, to maximise their potential for success. Information, advice and support is provided on a wide range of issues including student money, accommodation, disability, mental health and wellbeing, pastoral support, and general welfare including re-engagement with studies.
Due to an exciting period of new developments, such as the UoC International College and the Uoc Sanctuary Scholarship, Student Support is looking to appoint two experienced International Student Advisers to work as key members of our Student Engagement Team. Predominantly providing advice and guidance to our international student population, you will be responsible for advising and supporting individuals and groups of students on a range of welfare, immigration, personal and study-related issues from pre-entry through to graduation.
If you are looking for a varied and exciting role supporting university students to succeed, then we would love to hear from you. Based within Student Services, both roles will also work closely with the Academic Registry; specifically International Admissions, the Compliance Team and Programme Administration, as well as academic Institutes, Student Services, the Students’ Union and the International Development Office. You will provide students with timely information and guidance to support their preparation and transition into university life, study and cultural integration, from pre-arrival support through to induction and for the duration of their course. Informed by attendance data, referrals from tutors and students themselves, you will ensure students at risk of disengagement are contacted and supported early on to enable student success and a positive student experience, including signposting on to specialist support as needed.
Working with colleagues, you will be responsible for the designing, managing and delivering of face-to-face and online activities at key points during the student life-cycle; e.g. induction sessions, workshops, in-year events. The posts will have line management responsibility for student ambassadors working at various events alongside you and other colleagues.
There are two posts; one will be based at our Lancaster campus and one at our Carlisle campus, both with occasional paid travel to our other campuses. The posts are 0.8FTE (4 days) and permanent; Monday to Friday 9-5 (days to be agreed), with some flexibility as needed to meet the needs of our diverse learners, particularly around busy induction periods and intakes of new students. These roles are based on-site due to the student-facing nature of the work, however hybrid working arrangements can be supported for this role during quieter periods, in-line with business need.
