About the role:
We are looking for an Emotional Literacy Support Facilitator to join our Additional Support Department based at Bedford College. As an Emotional Literacy Support Facilitator you will play a pivotal role in the success of our students by:
Ensuring the delivery of high-quality out of class support for students Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities based within our ‘Haven’ spaces (safe space for SEND students on site).
Identifying and providing specialised individual support to students accessing the Haven.
Undertaking directed interventions with identified students in line with their individual needs, such as mentoring, emotional support and guidance.
Liaising with the team and curriculum areas to support the safety, well-being and achievement of students accessing the Haven.
Being the first point of contact for students accessing the Haven with SEND needs.
Proactively supporting students with SEND outside of the class in line with their identified needs.
Providing regular opportunities for mentoring for identified students as required.
Advocating students views within the curriculum area, including attendance at support management meetings, as appropriate.
Developing a range of lunch time activities to engage students within the Haven to promote social engagement.
Promoting and leading on social events to encourage positive interaction and engagement of students.
Liaising with curriculum areas on an ongoing basis to support the safety, well-being and achievement of students accessing the Haven.
Ensuring that displays and resources within the Haven are kept up to date and welcoming.
Planning and delivering activities in line with the diversity calendar to raise students awareness and involvement.
Maintaining additional learning support records.
Feeding into curriculum area Performance Monitoring and Self-Assessment Reports
About you:
A Levels or equivalent qualification in relevant subject
English and Maths or similar at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent
Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2014
Experience of working with a range of young people with SEND within a supporting capacity
Experience of working in a further education or related setting
Experience of working as a member of a team
Experience of using Microsoft Office applications
Knowledge of post-16 education opportunities
Knowledge of current developments and issues in further education
Knowledge of safeguarding, equality and diversity issues in education
Experience of using IT systems
Knowledge of issues relating to confidentiality
Flexible approach to work and working times including ability to work occasional evenings and requirement to work five days a week
Responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and for raising any concerns
Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children, young people and vulnerable adults
