Contract: Permanent, full time (35 hours per week)
Location: Covent Garden, London WC2H 9UB
Job Summary
This is a great opportunity for you to join the London Film School, Britain’s longest established and world-famous conservatoire for filmmakers as a Lighting Gaffer/Stage Manager.
The school, now approaching its 70th anniversary, is based in Covent Garden in the heart of London. LFS alumni include some legendary lighting camera people (Roger Pratt, Tak Fujimoto) as well as celebrated directors (Mike Leigh), and actors (Danny Huston), plus many producers and executives across the industry.
Although ALL our students train across key skills (directing, camera, editing) in the first year of the MA Filmmaking course, they can then specialize in Year 2. The school is small (180 students on the Filmmaking course across both years) and operates on a termly (not annual) intake. Students are making film exercises in every one of their six terms with us, and your role will be to provide advice to students on lighting, electrics and stage management, enabling them to safely undertake their film shoots on-site and on location.
The Lighting Gaffer/Stage Manager will deliver teaching on lights, electrics and stage management, whilst always being mindful of health and safety considerations. The post-holder will support the academic team in the Cinematography department, ensuring that all equipment is provided, maintained and sourced to support student film production.
The successful candidate will be a fully qualified electrician, with extensive experience working in the film/TV industry as a lighting gaffer and stage manager.
For further details about the role please visit our website https://lfs.org.uk/who-we-are/jobs-at-lfs where you can download a copy of the job description.
We offer a highly competitive staff benefits package including 30 days leave per annum (pro rata for part-time staff), employer matched contributory pension scheme (4%), season ticket and hardship loan schemes, up to 18 days professional development leave per academic year (pro rata for part-time staff), cycle to work scheme, Employee Assistance Programme and a suite of family-friendly policies.
How to apply
To apply, please email your CV, together with a supporting statement outlining how your skills, knowledge and experience meet the requirements of the role, plus the completed equalities monitoring form, to recruitment@lfs.org.uk (via the ‘Apply’ button above) by 9am on Thursday, 20 November 2024.
We want you to have every opportunity to demonstrate your skills, ability and potential; please contact us if you require any assistance or adjustment so that we can help with making the application process work for you. We offer a guaranteed interview to applicants with a disability, who meet the essential criteria for the role.

It is a condition of any offer of work for the School, which we may make to you, that you have, or gain, permission to work in the UK. By law, you will not be able to start working for us until you are able to provide evidence that this permission has been granted.
