About the programme: This position forms part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme funded by Innovate UK (IUK). A KTP is a 3-way collaboration between a graduate (or post-graduate), a business (or not for profit organisation) and a university or research institution. KTPs are designed to deliver an innovation project and bring about lasting, transformative change. As a KTP Associate, you will lead the project with full support from company and academic supervisors, while benefiting from expert coaching and mentoring with one of IUK’s highly experienced Advisers.
The University of Hertfordshire wishes to recruit a motivated, highly skilled, and qualified graduate to lead and deliver a project with Delight Supported Living, a care agency and domiciliary care provider in the health and social care sector. This project will deliver a software system that uses AI techniques to optimise staff job scheduling, based on criteria such as carer route optimisation, carer qualifications, skills and experience etc. The KTP includes access to management skills training delivered by Ashorne Hill, in addition to a £5,500 training budget.
Main duties and responsibilities
Delight Supported Living are looking for a Software Engineer to spearhead research and development work on a new ‘software-as-a-service’ product to improve the allocation of resources within the company. You will support the research team in achieving project milestones, including attending and leading project meetings as required; contributing to the design and organisation of the research project; contributing to academic peer reviewed papers and presentations; and collating and writing the final project reports and working papers.
You will handle data collection and analysis and contribute to the design and organisation of the project as well as work with academic team members on peer reviewed papers and presentations. You will be expected to disseminate the results and outputs of the project and ensure the collating and writing of the final project are of a high standard. You will take an active part in the academic life of the School through participation in seminars and other similar events.
Skills and experience required
You will be methodical with good attention to detail, able to work to deadlines as a team and independently, as well as be able to handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality. It is essential that the successful candidate has experience of working as part of a research team in a Higher Education Institution or in industry (e.g. final year project), technical experience of AI and Machine Learning, and proficiency in computational programming languages, such as Python. database design).
Qualifications required
A minimum of an undergraduate degree or equivalent level 6 qualification in Computer Science or a closely related degree is essential.
