The Social Research Institute is one of the leading centres for social research in the UK. It is home to seven internationally renowned research units. All of our centres are multidisciplinary, with staff drawn variously from economics, sociology, social policy, demography, psychology, anthropology and social statistics. We promote problem-solving interdisciplinary research on particular themes where we have outstanding scholarship and critical mass, e.g. gender, families, work, inequalities, migration, bio-social interactions.

About the role

We are looking to appoint a Research Assistant on a part-time basis at .30FTE to support the research project, funded by the Nuffield Foundation. The salary for this post is at UCL Salary Scale Grade 6B, spine points 25 to 28 (£38,357 to £41,005 pro rata per annum, inclusive of £5,125 London Allowance).

The project aim is to deliver a review of policy documents and research on accountability in education systems in ten jurisdictions. The project is guided by a set of research questions covering policy purpose, structure, policy design and implementation, evaluation, context and apparent effectiveness (where discernible).

The Research Assistant will be part of a team on a new research project which aims to conduct a thematic international comparative study on accountability within educational systems. The postholder’s main task is to support the systematic review processes of the research project. You will be responsible for supporting the project leads with evidence synthesis to inform decision-making for thematic review. In addition, the postholder will work closely with the Investigators and will be part of a broader team with substantial expertise in education and evidence use.

This post is funded from 1 January 2025 until 30 June 2025.

About you

The successful candidate will have a postgraduate degree or recognised equivalent qualification in a subject relevant to the role in the social sciences, social policy or education. You will have knowledge of evidence synthesis methods and research and have experience of writing research findings for publication. In addition, you will be highly proficient in the use of a variety of IT packages in a work environment, particular expertise in word-processing and presentation software is important in this role.
