Research Fellow

Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £35,880 to £45,163 with potential progression once in post to £47,874. Grade: 7

Contract Type: Fixed Term contract up to December 2027

The post-holder will contribute to all work packages of the UKRI FLF ‘Making aid work for displaced women: Integrating Islamic philanthropy and the international humanitarian system to improve outcomes for women’ initiative and support its implementation globally and across Bangladesh, Kenya, Turkey and the UK, over 36 months. This includes undertaking multiple social research methods, policy and public engagement activities.

This role’s allocation involves: 1) 70% Research, 2) 20% Administration and management, 3) 10% Policy engagement and capacity building.

The post-holder will contribute to all work packages: 1) Understanding (dis)connections between Islamic philanthropy and the international humanitarian system, and faith ethics; 2) Understanding lived experiences of receiving humanitarian assistance among displaced women; 3) Policy impact and innovation: Integrating Islamic philanthropy and international humanitarian system. The post-holder will be responsible for some specific aspects of these work packages, as agreed with the principal investigator.

Role Summary

• Work within the ‘Making aid work for displaced women’ UKRI FLF research initiative and 
• Contribute to producing project outputs
• Operate at the intersection of gender, forced migration and (faith) humanitarianism research
• Analyse and interpret research findings and results 

Main Duties

• Conduct semi-structured literature reviews 
• Contribute to and lead specific aspects of stakeholder mapping and policy analysis
• Collect research data through various research methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews and focus group discussions with local communities and key informants in varied locations in the UK and abroad (Bangladesh or Kenya or Turkey).

Person Specification

• Excellent knowledge of gender and forced migration, (faith) humanitarianism
• A higher degree relevant to the research area or equivalent qualifications, first degree in area of specialism 
• Experience in data collection in cooperation with local partners in the UK and Global South through co-production methodologies. 
• High-level analytical capabilities and expertise in data analysis
