Placed On: 28th October 2024
Closes: 10th November 2024

About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Technician in Camera and Lighting within the School of Film & Television. Sustained investment in facilities and equipment allows the school to continue to embrace technologies working at the forefront of film and television production.

We are looking for a new staff member to become a cornerstone of the technical team by transferring knowledge of the technical aspects; and equally as importantly, the craft of camera, lighting and grip operation to our students.

You will provide a professional level of technical instruction, curriculum support, demonstration and supervision for the technical facilities, equipment and/or processes for all of the courses of the School/Faculty. This includes the set-up, maintenance and supply of resources and equipment, and the provision of technical assistance, advice and instruction to all stakeholders, including students, academic staff, and external clients.

About You

The ideal candidate will have substantial recent demonstrable experience in camera and lighting operation/cinematography. We welcome applications from individuals who have, or are currently fulfilling a similar role at a higher education institution, but equally we welcome applications from those who have experience of these skillsets acquired from an industrial background – eg. this could be derived from working as a practitioner and operator within the film & television industry on wide range of productions.

Technically, you will have operational experience of film, broadcast and digital cinema camera equipment and their associated post-production workflows. You will also have experience of lighting & grip operation in support of film & television production, both on location and in studios/stages, this includes the selection and rigging of lights according to production requirements. A knowledge of multi camera TV studio and gallery operation including vision mixing and lighting desk operation would be a distinct advantage, as would experience of working in Production Design, including fabrication and decoration of, and raising and striking of sets.

Finally, you will combine professional experience, ideally some academic knowledge, a strong understanding of current industry practice; and you will bring the dynamism to inspire our students.

This is a permanent, part time, 21 hours a week for 38 weeks per year position, across Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

If you are looking to have an informal discussion about the vacancy ahead of applying, please email:
