Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

You will undertake teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Physics and/or Mathematics according to your expertise. You will also support learning through design and development of course materials including online content and undertaking necessary tutorial and administrative activities. This role will require you to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects and support undergraduate students through tutoring activities.

You will be expected to contribute actively to the research interests of the School and/or to develop short courses, commercial and Knowledge Transfer Partnership related activities in the School. You will supervise postgraduate research projects and apply for external funding to support research and/or commercial activities.

You will also undertake an administrative role in the School such as Module Leadership, assisting with programme management, or other similar duties, provide leadership in an aspect of research or commercial activities and undertake other duties within the framework of the post as delegated by the Head of Department, relevant Subject Group Leader, or Head of Research Group.

Skills and Experience

You must have substantial experience of working in Mathematics and/or Theoretical Physics, or closely related areas within Higher Education or in a relevant sector. You will be required to have a strong track record of research publications. You will need proven experience of teaching or tutoring at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. You must have a strong commitment to teaching, learning and student support at University level and evidence of securing external research and/or commercial funding. You will have demonstrable proficiency in English Language, with excellent oral and written communication skills. You must have a strong desire to enthuse and engage our students and be effective within a team setting. We will also expect from you a willingness to develop module and programme level material whilst also demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement and to undertake professional qualifications where appropriate.

Willingness and ability to contribute to teaching across the range of subjects taught by the Department, including Data Science, is desirable.

Qualifications Required

The role requires a doctorate in a relevant subject area, or equivalent qualification.

This post cannot be visa sponsored unless the applicant has a PhD / Doctorate. 

An appointment to this role may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.
