This role is part of the Research Governance, Ethics, Integrity & Culture team that sits within the Research Management and Innovation Directorate at King’s. The team is committed to providing comprehensive professional service support to enable the good and proper conduct of research and researchers. Supporting the King’s research community to ensure that all research conducted is safe, lawful, and of the highest standards of integrity and rigour.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity available to join Research Management and Innovation at King’s College London, as International Regulations Manager. This is a diverse and interesting role, working across the institution, with academics from all disciplines and other professional services teams, and with colleagues across the sector.

International collaboration forms a major part of King’s College London’s research portfolio and we need to ensure that such activity is carried out to the highest standard of integrity and in compliance with relevant legislation such as the Export Control Act 2002 and the National Security and Investment Act 2021. The post holder will work with researchers and professional services staff to identify, mitigate and manage the risks associated with international collaboration including reputational, operational, regulatory, and security-related, managing systems and policies for assurance and compliance in relation to relevant UK and international policy.

As the institutional lead on export control, the post holder will require expert knowledge of UK export control regulations, managing the licence application process and supporting key departments in identifying and mitigating associated risks. Additionally, the post holder will contribute to Trusted research policies and implementation towards meeting the NPSA trusted research requirement. The post holder will have significant experience in developing and managing policy and procedure and networking with key stakeholders at a senior level, both within the research community and in professional services.

The University currently has a hybrid working model. When in the office the post will be based at our Lavington Street campus. There are currently no line management responsibilities attached to this post.

This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered on an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria 

  1. Professionally qualified with a relevant degree/postgraduate qualification, plus a broad management experience in similar or related roles; Or substantial vocational and relevant management experience demonstrating management ability in an appropriate professional or specialist area, and success in similar or related roles, supported by evidence of significant appropriate specialist knowledge.
  2. Experience of UK Export Control Regulations, including the license application process.
  3. Strong knowledge of the risks associated with international research collaboration.
  4. Experience of the development and implementation of policies, processes and systems to support matters of compliance.
  5. The ability to solve complex problems.
  6. Demonstrable experience of influencing at a senior level both internally and externally.
  7. Experience of developing and implementing training and training materials and to deliver engaging and informative sessions.
  8. Demonstrable excellent communication and networking skills.
  9. Ability to demonstrate professionalism and command respect with academic and non-academic staff at all levels.

Desirable criteria

  1. Legal experience. 
  2. Direct research experience of managing international collaborations.
