An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Study Manager in the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU). The CEU, directed by Professor John Danesh, is an internationally recognised interdisciplinary group for the study of the causes and prevention of cardiovascular disease. It is part of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, one of Europe's leading academic departments of population health sciences.

CEU is highly distinctive for conducting large-scale, collaborative research projects. In the last five years, we have secured >£50million in funding from more than 80 grants and have published over 400 publications. In the past ten years, CEU has led various observational studies and trials and recruited almost 2 million participants into these. We are actively expanding and developing new studies and trials.

The Senior Study Manager is responsible for designing and directing the CEU's portfolio of studies and trials, which is a crucial strategic role.

Examples of previous studies led by CEU include:

  • INTERVAL trial: ~50,000 blood donors randomized into a pragmatic trial to determine whether blood can be safely and acceptably collected from donors by NHSBT (England's blood service) more frequently than present practice and at similar intervals to current customs in some other European countries.
  • COMPARE: ~30,000 blood donors enrolled into an observation study to determine the best method for measuring iron levels in blood donors.
  • STRIDES: ~1.4 million blood donors enrolled into a cluster randomized trial to assess different strategies to prevent fainting during or after blood donation.
  • BELIEVE: ~75,000 individuals recruited into an observational study in Bangladesh.

The postholder will have exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide a dedicated research coordination team, as well as strong communication and relationship-building experience engaging with diverse stakeholders (internal, national and international). The studies will be delivered under the supervision of the Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and Donor Health.

This position is full time and is available up to 30 November 2027 in the first instance.

We offer an excellent employment package that includes:

  • Pension schemes
  • Hybrid working through a blend of remote and office working
  • Family-friendly initiatives
  • Career development opportunities
  • Support for health & mental wellbeing
  • Generous holiday entitlement

The post will be located at the new Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart & Lung Research Institute on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Papworth Road, Trumpington, Cambridge CB2 0BB
