The School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Westminster is very pleased to announce two new fully funded PhD Studentships to begin in the academic year 2025/26 for a September 2025 start. Located in the heart of London, the School of School of Computer Science and Engineering has an active research culture, to which our well-established doctoral research programme makes a vital contribution.

About the studentships

The studentships will consist of:

  • 5 years full-time enrolment
  • A home fee waiver and an annual stipend of £21,237 (raising each year in line with UKRI increases) for three years.* This includes London weighting.

Overseas students are eligible to apply, but will be expected to make up the difference between Home and Overseas fees and will be liable for other costs such as visas, NHS surcharge, etc.

In our selection of successful applications, we are particularly interested in the following:

Entry requirements

We expect that candidates should have a minimum classification of a 2.1 in their Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and preferably a Master’s degree.

Applicants whose secondary level education has not been conducted in the medium of English should also demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency normally defined as IELTS: 6.5 (overall score with not less than 6.0 in any of the individual elements).

* Minimum full-time enrolment before submission is 33 months. 

** Fee waivers are in place for the three-year studentship. Following that there is a six month no fee period for writing up.  Should a doctoral research student not have submitted by the end of the no fee period then a £1,500 fee is applicable.
