About the role:

The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM) is a unique partnership between Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria to establish a new medical school in Carlisle. The School will offer a four-year graduate entry programme, with the first cohort of 58 students entering in August 2025.

We are seeking to appoint a Subject Lead for Clinical Skills and Simulation. Working closely with the PCSM module leads, the postholder will be responsible for the planning and delivery of a variety of learning events that integrate content from across the programme’s modules, to facilitate collaborative learning experiences for PCSM students. Sessions will embed clinical presentations, assessment, diagnostics, management, team-working, professional values and behaviours where required.

Sessions will utilise a range of interactive delivery modalities, including practical and skill-development classes, clinical simulation, large group teaching sessions, clinical case-based / team-based learning events, and self-directed online learning materials.

What you would be doing:

In this role, you will develop innovative content and engaging learning materials for Clinical Skills and Simulation teaching.  You will also be responsible for the organisation of the clinical skills suite, including managing resources, equipment and digital needs.  Additionally, you will develop appropriate formative and summative assessments as required, and play a key role in supporting clinical and professional skills assessments.

What we are looking for:

  • A higher degree (e.g. MSc or PhD) in a discipline related to health sciences             
  • A background that provides appropriate contextual knowledge of low and high-fidelity clinical skills teaching or other related areas in a HE or NHS context
  • Evidence of effective teaching in clinical skills through a range of teaching styles and formats
  • Experience in managing resources for clinical skills teaching e.g. planning, procurement and organisation of equipment and campus spaces
  • A highly collaborative and approach, with the proven ability to work across disciplines and coordinate others
