About the Role
The School is seeking to appoint a Physics Research Laboratory Technician to provide technical support for the School’s Physics Research laboratories. The post holder will support condensed matter physics labs, a small chemistry lab and electronic fabrication clean rooms.
The postholder will work closely with the School Health and Safety Coordinator to ensure that the dedicated lab spaces are operated and maintained in compliance with School and University H&S policy and the UK HSE guidelines.
The postholder will be responsible for the effective day-to-day housekeeping of the research labs, training new users on equipment and perform routine maintenance and calibration of equipment and that the labs are adequately stocked and supported.
About You
To support the wide variety of activities we are looking for candidates with either a physics, chemistry or engineering background but keen to learn the skills to cover all relevant areas. Candidates should have A-level in either Physics or Chemistry and have either an apprenticeship degree or equivalent experience in the relevant research environment. You should have significant experience working in a physics or physical chemistry laboratory environment.

The School consists of the Departments of Physics and Astronomy, and Chemistry. It is one of five schools in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The School is a dynamic environment, home to over 530 undergraduate students, 70 postgraduate taught students, and 130 teaching and research staff. Our research is highly collaborative, working with colleagues across all three faculties and supported by partnerships with industry, NHS and other stakeholders.
