About the Role
The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, within the School of the Arts is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Latin American Studies. This post is part-time and fixed-term, available as a maternity cover.
Duties will include convening and teaching undergraduate modules, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department. Modules you will be expected to teach and/or mark include Women’s Filmmaking in Latin America, Labour in Latin American Culture and Culture and Language (Spanish group). You will also be asked to act as supervisor of research projects and advisor for undergraduate students, and to participate in recruitment and outreach activities of the Department.
About You
You will hold a PhD in Latin American Studies or a related subject or have an equivalent professional qualification, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, good organisational and communicative skills are also essential.

About the School
The School of the Arts is a newly created School within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, which comprises seven Schools that deliver the research and education activity of the Faculty. The School offers a range of programmes at UG, PG, Foundation and Masters level, and also offers courses to students across the University. The post is part-time and a fixed-term appointment for 12 months, with an expected start date January 2025 until 31 December 2025. The salary will be Grade 5, £50,685 per annum (pro rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
It is expected that the successful candidate will hold it for the full period. However, should the post-holder on maternity exercise their right to return earlier, then this appointment will be terminated, subject to a notice period of one month.
