The University of Macau (UM) is an internationalized public comprehensive university in the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) located at the west bank of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The GBA is rapidly developing into one of the leading technology and innovation hubs of the world. Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering

The Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAPME) as one of the major research institutes of the University offers a platform for a well-balanced integration of fundamental and applied research, which serves as a bridge between pure science and engineering. The interdisciplinary nature of IAPME combines the diverse research strengths and expertise at the University of Macau to develop real-world solutions to future technological challenges. At this stage, its key research areas include green energy technology and environmental materials, photo-electric and electro-optic conversion materials, materials design and simulation, etc., in order to develop cutting-edge and innovative disciplines with excellence. IAPME offers Master and PhD programmes with about 170 PhD students. Currently, there are more than 25 academic staff and 50 research staff serving in the Institute. Director of Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering

The successful candidate should have considerable experience in academic management, academic strategic planning, curriculum design, laboratory setup and research development, and must be highly committed to the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research and service. 

In particular, the candidates should have the following credentials:

  1. An earned PhD degree in discipline related to the research areas of the Institute;
  2. Full Professor or above with a distinguished record of internationally-recognized research and scholarship;
  3. Evidence of outstanding academic leadership, demonstrated commitment to leading research and a record of effective teaching in the higher education sector;
  4. Ability in fostering productive interdisciplinary relations within and beyond the University;
  5. Excellent management, interpersonal and communication skills;
  6. Proficiency in English is required as it is the working language, while knowledge in Chinese/Portuguese will be an advantage. 

Remuneration

Remuneration will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
