Lifeguard/Duty Assistant (Senior, Qualified & Unqualified)

FTE: 1.0 (working 40 hours per week)

Salary: HSV3.8-HSV5.15 (£24,585-£28,689) Uplift upon completion of 6-month probation

Starting Salary: Dependant on qualifications & experience

• Senior Lifeguard/Duty Assistant: £26,228
• Lifeguard/Duty Assistant (NPLQ Qualified): £24,974
• Unqualified Duty Assistant: £24,585

Annual Leave: 23 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: De Havilland campus, Hatfield, Hertfordshire

We are looking for full-time Lifeguard / Duty Assistants to join our vibrant and welcoming team at University of Hertfordshire Sports Village. 

Main duties and responsibilities

You will be part of a team preparing facilities for bookings and events from international/national standard through to local grass roots level. Successful candidates will work as part of the lifeguard team, but also support the duty management within a supportive, encouraging environment.

Skills and experience required 

• For senior role only, previous supervisory experience of working within a Wet and Dry sport / leisure center would be desirable.
• Have energy and motivated
• A positive, personable and welcoming approach
• Ability to deliver exceptional customer service
• The ability to work as part of a shift rota including early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Qualifications required

We are looking for candidates who have:

• A current and valid NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification), OR the ability to achieve in the first 3-6 months employment (Internal training & assessment provided) and GSCE Maths & English grade D/3 or above.

Senior Level:

Appointments considered at Senior level will be dependent on significant and demonstrable skills and experience which align with the desirable criteria accompanied by the additional accountabilities and responsibilities stated.
