Student Engagement Coach - 36 or 18 hours per week, 39 weeks per year to cover term times

Student Engagement Coaches are newly created roles that will provide a vital service to our students, mostly 16-18 year olds. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for students, welcoming them into college, supporting them during their college break times, and actively engaging with them in a pro-active way, with a focus on positive reinforcement. You will maintain a frequent physical presence in the communal areas of the College where students gather socially, observing behaviours and identifying where interventions would be beneficial.

The role is varied, and no day will look the same; from assisting students in their day to day activities, supporting them in their studies and helping them achieve their aspirations, through to coaching conversations - supportive and challenging, helping them to see things from a different perspective, finding out what motivates them, overcoming barriers, empowering them and building their self-awareness. You will liaise with a wide range of stakeholders both inside and outside the College, work with students on a 1:1 basis and in groups as well as developing activities to motivate and engage students.

You will have experience of working with and supporting young people, with the ability to identify potential barriers that they face and develop strategies to overcome these, employing a variety of communication tools. Student-centred, with a positive and calm approach, you will have the ability to establish rapport, motivate and inspire young people. You will have the ability to empathise, listen actively and engage in effective coaching conversations. You will possess a coaching skills qualification recognised by a national body, or be willing to work towards a recognised qualification.  An effective and confident communicator, you will be able to work with a diverse range of students and staff, families/carers and external agencies, and be able to work on your own initiative to develop strategies to enhance students’ success and self-awareness.
