We welcome applications from talented Digital twins and ontology developers to join our research team to participate on the building innovative ecosystem for UK transport decarbonisation.

About the Role

This work is part of TRANSIT project  TransiT - Digital Twinning for the Decarbonisation of UK Transport. You will apply ontology and machine learning to advance smart transportation systems. As part of our interdisciplinary team, you will help design, develop, and integrate ontologies and machine learning models to support rapid decarbonization across Road, Rail, Air, and Maritime transport.

Your Key Responsibilities include:

  • Ontology Development: Design ontologies for complex transport data, ensuring seamless interoperability across modes and systems.
  • Machine Learning Application: Apply machine learning to enhance data analysis, predictive modeling, and decision-making in transportation.
  • Collaborative Research: Collaborate with academic, industry, and government partners to integrate solutions and build strong relationships.
  • Digital Twin Integration: Contribute to Federated Transport Digital Twins (FTDTs) for a resilient, interoperable Federated Transport System (FTSoS).
  • Demonstrator Development: Create demonstrators to showcase practical ontology and machine learning applications in real-world transport scenarios.
  • Knowledge Dissemination: Publish research, present at conferences, and contribute to knowledge transfer and policy support through secondments.

About You

You will have a doctorate (or be near completion) in a relevant field, with experience in developing ontologies, knowledge graphs, and machine learning. Strong software design and development skills will enable immediate contributions to project goals. Expertise in training methods and knowledge of manufacturing processes are advantages, along with a growing record of publications in high-quality journals.
