The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. We have an annual research income of more than £190 million and are one of the highest-rated research institutions in the UK. We also train the next generation of health leaders through outstanding specialist education for our 4,700 postgraduate students.
Founded more than 120 years ago in 1899, we are a global network of specialist centres, units and partners. We have 3,500 staff working to improve health worldwide, including at our main sites in London, and at our Units in The Gambia and Uganda.
Our vision is to help create a more healthy, sustainable and equitable world for everyone, because we believe our shared future depends on our shared health.
We are seeking to appoint to the role of Dean of the Faculty of Public Health and Policy (PHP) to lead the development of existing and emerging areas of excellence in research and education, responding to an era of new challenges for public health. As a member of the LSHTM Executive Team and reporting directly to LSHTM’s Director, the Dean will play a major strategic role, incorporating change leadership and management at both Faculty and School level and representing and advocating for the Faculty and LSHTM externally.
The Faculty of PHP is dedicated to improving health in the UK and globally through cutting-edge research, innovative teaching, and impactful consultancy. As the largest multi-disciplinary public health group in Europe, with over 250 academic staff and 250 doctoral students, we offer a dynamic and inclusive environment. Our faculty excels in health policy, UK health services research, health systems and services, social care and public health. The faculty offers a range of respected MSc courses, research degrees, short courses, and CPD opportunities. We employ multidisciplinary and multi-method approaches to generate new knowledge and inform policy and practice, engaging with people, policymakers, and service providers to ensure our work is relevant and transformative. Our inter-disciplinary expertise spans anthropology, economics, epidemiology, geography, history, international relations, mathematics, political science, psychology, public health medicine, sociology, and statistics.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead an academic portfolio of significant strategic importance. We are therefore seeking an inspiring and inclusive leader with sustained academic leadership experience gained at a strategic level in research intensive environments. They will be a leading academic in their discipline and passionate about delivering high-impact research, innovative interdisciplinary programmes, and an exceptional student experience. A strategic thinker, with a high degree of integrity and excellent judgement, they will share our values and have the ability to engender a diverse, inclusive and respectful environment, and influence and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders.
Closing date: 5pm on Friday 15th November 2024.
