The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) traces its heritage back to the first university in Wales, receiving its Royal Charter in 1828 and is honoured to have His Majesty King Charles III as Royal Patron.

We are now looking for a Director of Academic Services to join our Carmarthen or Swansea campus on a Full time, Permanent  basis, working 37 hours per week.

THE ROLE

The role supports the Pro-Vice Chancellor in developing and managing the Academic Services which will encompass Quality Assurance, Learning and Teaching Enhancement, Registry, Timetabling, Research Degree Administration, Apprentices, Academic Regulations, Student Cases, Student Voice, and student outcomes analysis. You will manage the team leads within the directorate and ensure compliance with external regulations, delivering high-quality academic experiences. Key responsibilities include leading projects to enhance operational efficiency, supporting academic policy reviews, staff development, representing the directorate on the Professional Leadership team, managing the academic annual reporting framework, engaging with external bodies, and overseeing the directorate's budget and overall operations. This is a role which calls for excellent people, communication and networking skills, as the successful candidate will need to be able to work across the whole remit of Academic Services and the wider UWTSD Group.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking an experienced HE professional for this exciting new position.

To be considered for Director of Academic Services you will need:

  • Doctoral level qualification
  • Significant experience of strategic and operational leadership and management, within a UK HE environment
  • Comprehensive experience of line management and development of complex teams, managing managers
  • Extensive knowledge of the HE sector and the areas covered within Academic Services
  • Strong leadership ability at a senior level in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Experience of developing academic strategy/policy within a teaching and research environment
  • Experience in implementing innovative solutions
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills which demonstrate sound judgement and maturity in the management of complex relationships
  • Ability to prioritise projects amidst conflicting demands
  • Ability and preparedness to work flexibly, including travel between campuses and locations when required

It would be beneficial if you also have:

  • Teaching qualification or higher education academy accreditation at senior or principal fellow level
  • Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh – oral and written
