The Division of Cultural Studies (from the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies), Faculty of Arts invites applications for an Assistant Professorship in Public Humanities. Our new BA programme in Public Humanities focuses not only on research and theories but also on cultural practices, knowledge transfer, and public engagement. We aim to nurture a new generation of cultural mediators, producers, and professionals to meet the needs and challenges of contemporary society.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in a relevant humanities or social sciences subject, and with a strong interest and commitment in Public Humanities. Preferred areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, cultural studies, cultural heritage and policies, media technologies, social design, museum and archival studies, public art and community arts, and digital humanities and creativity. Applicants should be familiar with the cultural landscape and development in Hong Kong, China and/or Asia. An ideal candidate should bring new research that converges with the department's traditional strength in critical approaches and the university's strategic areas.
The appointee is expected to teach at BA, MA and MPhil/PhD levels. Applicants should submit an online application with the following documents: 1) a cover letter; 2) a full curriculum vitae; 3) one sample course outline related to the above areas; 4) one sample publication in peer reviewed journal or chapter in edited book; and 5) names, addresses and e-mail addresses of three referees to whom the applicants’ consent has been given for their providing reference letters.
Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to 3 years initially commencing August 2025, which, subject to budget, performance and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later.
