THE PROJECT
The University of Essex in partnership with Hivedome offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to explore and implement applications of natural language processing in commodities trading software, enabling operators to interact with their data in a conversational manner.

This post is fixed-term for 30 months and is based at Hivedome’s offices in Rochford, Essex.

DUTIES OF THE POST
The duties of the post will include:

• Transforming Hivedome’s in-house client management system using Large Language Models.
• Evaluating open and close LLMs for Hivedome’s requirement and selecting the most commercially beneficial one.
• Fine-tuning the pre-trained LLM on the company's property data.
• User Interface and API development to integration.
• To act as project lead, to progress the project and ensure milestones are met to a timely manner.
• To embed technology, train and upskill company staff.
• To participate in academic and/or industrial conferences and other events, to disseminate and present research outcomes to the wider community.

These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. They may be changed from time to time to meet changing circumstances.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• BSc in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline.
• MSc in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or related area.
• A PhD (or be close to obtaining one) in NLP, machine learning or a related area or industry experience in NLP.
• Strong programming skills.
• Knowledge and expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP).
• Experience in Python and relevant NLP libraries.
• Experience with modern deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).
• Experience in using Large Language Models in real-world use cases.
• Ability to deploy a complex Machine Learning project within a commercial setting, with multiple stakeholders and tight deadlines.
• Experience in working with large datasets.
• An understanding of the need to balance academic and commercial outputs.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a range of audiences.
• Tenacity and persuasiveness to keep complex projects moving forward and to bring others along the journey.
• Ability to manage expectations in a multi-partner project.
• Ability and willingness to engage in knowledge exchange and outreach activities.
• Ability to work effectively and positively, both independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent time management skills.

This is a hybrid role. Typically working Tuesday to Thursday in the office.
