About This Opportunity

The School of Mathematics and Physics is seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in mathematics or statistics. The appointee will have a developed research program in mathematics or statistics, and will be required to engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and curriculum development, including service courses. The appointee will also supervise Higher Degree by Research (PhD and MPhil), postgraduate coursework and Honours students, conduct high-quality research and perform administrative, outreach and other activities associated with the School.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess student performance, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.
  • Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, and provide performance feedback.
  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships internal and external to the university, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

Applicants should possess a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field such as mathematics or statistics.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, and education check.

About the Selection Process

As part of the Selection Process, applicants shortlisted for interview will be required to present a seminar and a mock lecture to members of the School community prior to their scheduled interview. The lecture topic will be provided in advance to shortlisted candidates. The research seminar will be for 40 minutes plus 5-10 minutes of questions, and the mock lecture will be 25 minutes, plus questions.

Please note that the seminars and mock lectures are likely to occur on Friday 22 and Monday 25 November 2024, and interviews are likely to be held during the week commencing November 25, 2024.
