Who we’re looking for:

Plymouth Marjon has a proud 30-year history of graduating speech and language therapists, and we are ready to welcome a new member of staff to our team.  Following significant investment Marjon is about to open a state-of- the-art Health, Education and Practice centre on the university campus. This will include purpose-built teaching and clinic spaces for a range of health services.

The successful candidate will be an HCPC/RCSLT registered speech and language therapist who has successfully completed their NQP competencies.

The role will include both clinical work in the Marjon SLT clinic, and an opportunity to join our dedicated team of academics delivering the curriculum to our undergraduate students and apprentices.

Our specialist SLT clinic uses a pioneering model of service delivery both on-site and in the community. We are able to offer a person-led service that is responsive to individual and contracted service need. At its heart is the innovative, flexible student placement education provision to students across the SLT programme.  These opportunities include both formal placements and voluntary work.

We have a well-established history of integrating speech & language therapy provision into specialist provision including schools, social care and alternative provisions.  The expansion of the clinic team will allow us to continue to develop and innovate in both clinical and student education fields. As part of the university’s expanding School of Health, we have secured funding to develop the Southwest’s first highly specialist ultrasound service for differential diagnosis and bio-feedback which we aim to launch in the coming year.

While at present, the majority of clinic users are children and their families, we are seeking to develop our existing service for people with acquired disorders and we welcome applicants with clinical experience in any field. There are opportunities to develop skills with both children and adult client groups.

Where you’ll work:

In order to be successful in this role, you will be required to work on and off site.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact:

Dr Julia Stewart, Associate Dean of the School of Health & Wellbeing, jstewart@marjon.ac.uk

We recognise that our recruitment might bring in staff who are new to higher education and are bringing knowledge and expertise from other fields and practice. We want to ensure that all our academic staff are appropriately qualified to teach in HE and have the confidence to do so; to support this, we offer a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) to all new teaching staff without an existing teaching qualification. This provides our new staff with an opportunity to develop their understanding and practice of learning, teaching and pedagogic research/research management in higher education, and enables us to maintain our high standards of teaching.

We are keen to hear from a diverse range of applicants to support our goal to realise every individual’s potential. We are a ‘Disability Confident Employer’: candidates who declare a disability and who demonstrate on their application that they meet the essential criteria will be included on the shortlist.

Closing date: Wednesday 16 October 2024 (at 11:59pm)

Interview date: Wednesday 30 October 2024
