The Division of Media, Communication and Performing Arts are seeking a new colleague to support practical theatre work (with a principal focus on lighting and sound) in order to facilitate the smooth and efficient delivery of our suite of performing arts degree programmes.
You will have the necessary knowledge and skills to assume responsibility for the technical operation of the wide variety of theatre productions and practical performance assessments conducted by QMU students and staff. As such, you should have recent and relevant professional technical theatre experience. Given the range of production activity you will be involved in you should be organised, self motivated, and have a positive attitude towards proactively solving problems that may arise. You will also be required to demonstrate, guide and mentor QMU students in the practices required to ensure the safe and effective use of the studio theatre, control room, rehearsal spaces, and production equipment. As such you should be patient, be a good communicator, and be passionate about supporting people to learn new skills.
The post is fixed term until July 2024 in the first instance. Candidates should ideally be free to take up this post from 21st October 2024, though we’d be keen to hear from applicants who might already have other commitments during this period, as we may be able to accommodate flexible working.
