We have an exciting opportunity in IT Services for a passionate and experienced data networking engineer looking to use their skills to deliver, support and help transform connectivity solutions at the University.
The University of Sheffield delivers life-enhancing research, innovation and education - come and join one of the teams that makes that possible. In IT Services, we’re dedicated to providing excellent services, systems and infrastructure to meet the needs of our students, researchers and colleagues. Our world is dynamic and so are we. We work closely with everyone who uses technology at the University, to make sure it works for them, so they can focus on improving themselves and the world around us. So, if you want to support the next generations of students, leaders and researchers, we want you on our team.
You will be part of the highly skilled Network Services team. In this role your focus will be on core networking systems including routing, switching, data centre, wireless, DDI, VPN, WAN, firewalling, and load balancing. As such you will have strong experience in these areas with well honed skills in Cisco Catalyst, Cisco ACI and Fortinet infrastructures.
The University has a large networking estate supporting a user community of over 35,000. Resilient, reliable and secure connectivity is a critical component in enabling the research, teaching and business activities of the organisation.
Your work as a senior network engineer will be varied and dynamic with opportunities to develop your skills across existing and new networking infrastructures. You will play a key role in the implementation and adoption of new technologies including automation and software defined capabilities as well as supporting the daily operation of core network systems.
We are seeking candidates with excellent technical skills, supported by recognised industry accreditations (CCNP or equivalent) and experience of network engineering within a large, varied organisation. The ability to lead on new developments and implementations is essential, as is a positive, enthusiastic approach to collaboration, support and personal development.
What we offer:
We are committed to enabling our employees to work in a hybrid model with flexibility over when, where and how to achieve the required outputs, in discussion with your manager.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
