Role Overview:

Thrombosis Research Institute (TRI), The Weston Molecular Immunology Laboratory is looking for a talented and highly motivated Research technician in Protein Biochemistry and Cell Biology to join our team in London UK. The successful candidate will have a BSc degree in Biology or Biochemistry and at least three years of hands-on lab experience. Knowledge in protein purification technology for bacteria and mammalian cell protein expression systems would be advantageous. The Applicants should be highly motivated, must be well versed in basic molecular biology and cell biology techniques, and must have experience in working chromatography platforms including the use of affinity, ion-exchange, gel filtration. The candidate will be joining a collaborative research environment, and so will need good interpersonal and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce proteins from E. coli expression systems including medium preparation, autoclave and centrifugation,
  • Purify proteins using state-of-the-art chromatography platforms (affinity, ion-exchange, gel filtration, FPLC and HPLC) and other analytical methods to ensure production of the highest quality candidate proteins.
  • Analyse results, SDS-PAGE, ligand-receptor, antigen-antibody binding, ELISA, and implement solutions; present results at meetings.
  • Maintain and implement good laboratory practices, including accurate laboratory notebook systems, and follow laboratory safety guidelines and practices
  • Experience of research, in a technical or scientific role 

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • BSc degree in Biology or Biochemistry
  • Significant hands-on laboratory experience
  • Strong knowledge of basic molecular biology and cell biology techniques.
  • Experience with protein purification technologies for bacterial and mammalian cell protein expression systems.
  • Proficiency in working with chromatography platforms, including affinity, ion-exchange, and gel filtration techniques. 

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
