About King’s:

The Department of Theology and Religious Studies at King’s College London is seeking to appoint a one-year Lecturer in Bible, Gender and the Arts.  This role is being advertised because of the retirement of Professor Joan Taylor in December 2024.

You will contribute to a department that is well known for the integrated study of Theology, Religious Studies and the Arts.

About the role:

You will cover undergraduate courses including a first-year one on religious texts and a third-year course on Gender and the Bible, and may be asked to contribute to other MA and BA courses as appropriate to your expertise. You will have expertise in teaching and research in at least two and preferably three of: Bible, Gender, and the Arts or material culture. You will play an active role in the administration of the department, and will be research active. Appropriate support and training will be provided in the context of a supportive department and faculty.

This is a 12 month, full time post (35 hours per week), on a Education and Research Contract (40% teaching, 40% research, 20% administration).

About You:

Essential criteria

  1. A PhD in Theology, Religious Studies, Biblical Studies or another relevant discipline/s.
  2. An inclusive approach to engagement with different theological and religious traditions.
  3. Ability to teach Bible and Gender at undergraduate or MA level
  4. A developed area of research, and progress in achieving quality original research publications commensurate with career stage.
  5. Strong communication, interpersonal and networking skills, ability to be a champion and advocate for TRS
  6. Collaborative spirit and ability to work with others in a collegial and supportive manner
  7. Excellent administrative and organisational skills, able to deliver projects in a creative and timely manner.

Desirable criteria

  1. Active interest or expertise in some aspect/field of the arts or material culture.
  2. Some experience of multi- and interdisciplinary collaboration
  3. Some expertise in global religions and theologies, perhaps including black, liberation or womanist theologies.
