About us
UCL is a world-leading research-intensive university, often ranked in the top ten in the world, with an annual turnover of well over £1 billion.
Research and Innovation Services (RIS) provides support and services for our academics working across the research and innovation life cycle. The directorate is comprised of four teams; Award Services, Contract Services, Planning, Insight and Improvement, and Compliance and Assurance, who all work together to deliver a service to support, advise and provide expertise to our academic community for our extensive and varied portfolio of externally funded projects.
The UCL Research Ethics Service (Compliance and Assurance) plays a vital role in enabling UCL staff and students to conduct high quality, trusted research. We support the UCL research community by providing rigorous and efficient processes for research ethics review and offering training and guidance to researchers across all disciplines and career levels.
The Research Ethics Service is currently engaged in a transformation and improvement programme. We have an opportunity for a maternity cover Research Ethics Facilitator to join our small and collaborative team as we move to implementing an online research ethics system.
About the role
As a key member of the Research Ethics Service, you will provide advice and guidance to the UCL community on a wide variety of research ethics issues. Acting as one of the first points of contact for the service, you will facilitate the ethical review of healthy volunteer research through the UCL Research Ethics Committee. You will support the development and implementation of policy and service improvement initiatives. You will build relationships with colleagues in faculties and professional services to deliver research ethics training and ensure clear communication of ethics polices and processes.
You will join a supportive team of 3 Research Ethics Facilitators, each reporting to the Research Ethics Service Manager.
This role is available full time (1 FTE), on a 14 month fixed term basis as maternity cover.
We have adopted a hybrid working model and you will work with the team on campus for a minimum of one day per week.
The closing date for applications is 11.55pm on Sunday 29th September.
About you
You have an interest in current and emerging issues within research ethics and enjoy working in a varied and challenging role. With excellent communication skills and the ability to exercise judgement independently, you can articulate clear grounds for decisions to researchers at all levels and prioritise competing demands and deadlines. You have strong IT skills and administrative experience gained in the higher education sector or in a large, complex organisation.
What we offer
As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents we also offer some great benefits including 41 Days holiday, and more.
