We are seeking a Post-doctoral Researcher. The appointee will participate in a large, multi-institutional and multidisciplinary Research Unit funded by the NIHR based in the NDM Experimental Medicine and Nuffield Division of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, John Radcliffe Hospital, University of Oxford, Division of Infection and Immunity, University College London and NHS Blood and Transplant. The programme Genomics to Enhance Microbial Screening (GEMS) will focus on the investigation of microbiological risk associated with blood transfusion and organ transplantation and the development of new screening or management strategies to mitigate their impact. The theme will additionally use archive and surveillance resources available to NHSBT to contribute to “Pandemic Preparedness”.

As our Post-doctoral Researcher you will:

  • Possess the ability to develop research questions collaboratively, conduct individual research, analysing detailed and virological, clinical and epidemiological data.
  • Support the laboratory work of PhD students.
  • Develop, establish, and pursue appropriate analytical protocols and techniques to support research
  • Regularly participate in Theme meetings (Theme Lead, associated postgraduate students, University staff and NHSBT staff)
  •  Participate in inter-theme technical, scientific and strategic discussions and contribute to steering group meetings and the research Unit annual meeting.
  • Regularly write research articles at a national level for peer-reviewed journals and reviews. Present papers at national conferences, and lead seminars to disseminate research findings
  • Agree clear task objectives, organise, and delegate work to other members of the team and coach other members of the group on specialist methodologies or procedures
  • Liaise with and provide information to project stakeholders (NHSBT and UK Health Security Agency) and represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the team or alone
  • Carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions and research groups

You will Hold a relevant PhD/DPhil in a virology, microbiology or molecular biology subject area (i.e. PhD,) combined with relevant laboratory experience.

The post is full time (37.5 hours) and fixed-term until 31/03/2027.
