The role

The University of Bristol wishes to recruit a scientist with a passion for research and interest in developing new instrumentation. They will be a highly skilled & qualified graduate, who will lead and deliver a project with Markes International, Bridgend, Wales (where you will be based). The project aims to develop a stable, commercially available analytical system which enables accurate monitoring of greenhouse gases and ozone depleting substances to support independent emissions verification on a global scale. This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) position is part-funded through the KTP programme (https://www.ktp-uk.org/) and includes a £4,667 training budget and 10% of your time dedicated to your personal development. You will have access to the University’s USS pension scheme, with generous employer contributions.

What will you be doing?

As a KTP Associate, you will work with Markes International to embed new know-how using research and academic support from the University. You will be the project lead and have the creative freedom to suggest changes and implement your ideas. The project involves:

  • Ensuring the new instrument delivers the highest quality chromatography and is fully validated through application tests.
  • Transferring knowledge from the University of Bristol to the Markes team, including writing user manuals and training other people.

You should apply if

Ideally, we are looking for an analytical chemist or similar with strong hands-on technical skills who will thrive in a busy, multi-discipline environment. The successful applicant will have:

  • A Masters degree in Chemistry or a related field with experience in analytical chemistry.
  • A creative approach to problem solving and the ability to work independently on a research topic.
  • Experience with gas or liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry is desirable.
