The Courtauld Institute of Art is the UK’s leading institution for teaching and research in Art History and the conservation of paintings; it is also home to one of the finest small art museums in the world.

As a Student Mental Health and Disability Advisers you will have a professional qualification in mental health (such as mental nursing, mental health social work or clinical/educational psychology) or disability support (such as NADP accreditation). You will be based at our Vernon Square campus in King’s Cross and will sit within the Student Wellbeing Service where you will work closely with the Wellbeing Manager, Wellbeing Administrator and other Mental Health and Disability Advisor to provide face to face appointments for the university’s students. You will also liaise with colleagues across the wider University, including Student and Academic Services and teaching staff, to take a coordinated and multi-disciplinary approach to student support.

You will hold a student caseload and provide a range of support and interventions, from both internal resources or by sign-posting to external agencies, to help remove potential wellbeing or disability related barriers to a student’s learning. The type of support given is needs-based and can either be provided as one-off meetings or via regular on-going support throughout a student’s academic journey, and will include working with students with neurodiverse conditions, specific learning differences, mental health or physical disability or those who are struggling with any wellbeing concerns which are affecting their studies. You will be responsible for monitoring levels of risk and escalating any students of concern to the Student Wellbeing Manager.

You will have:

  • Experience of supporting students with a range of mental and physical health conditions, and/or neurodiversity/SpLDS, preferably in a Higher Education setting.
  • The ability to identify and manage risk, knowing when to escalate students of concern to the Wellbeing Manager.
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure and in the face of students presenting in moments of crisis.
  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Ability to use IT systems, Client Management Records systems and other software appropriate to the role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively and accurately under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • The ability to engage with administrative and academic colleagues clearly and with confidence.
