Faculty of Health & Life Sciences

This is a part-time job at 0.6 FTE (3 days per week, 21.9 hours per week) on a fixed-term basis until 31st March 2025.

The post: Wildlife and Climate Data Officer

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to support the work of Dr Orly Razgour. This post sits within the Connecting People and Landscapes under Climate Change partnership project. The Wildlife and Climate Data Officer role will involve collating data from existing species monitoring and rehabilitation schemes for analysis of responses to climate change, with findings communicated at the end of the development phase in preparation for targeted species work.  

The post will include:

  • Collecting and storing data from rehabilitation centres and wildlife carers.
  • Statistical data analysis and production of maps and data outputs on small mammal species and climate.
  • Contributing to writing scientific publications.
  • Assisting in communicating the outcomes and opportunities of the project.
  • Contributing to one workshop for farmers/landowners per annum.
  • Attending regular Project Partner meetings and Steering Group meetings.
  • Contributing to other project task and groups as required throughout the life of the project.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies. 

Applicants will be educated to at least first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to:

  1. Communicate and liaise with data providers, project partners and project stakeholders.
  2. Manage data.
  3. Carry out statistical analysis of data in R.
  4. Write scientific reports.
  5. Present data to diverse audiences.
  6. Have excellent organisation skills.
  7. Have excellent time management skills.
  8. Be able to work independently.
  9. Have good problem solving skills.
  10. Have a good understanding of the impacts of climate change on biodiversity.
  11. Have an interest in bats and other small mammals.
