We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced smoking cessation team leader to join our team. In addition to your own caseload, you will lead and manage a team of smoking cessation practitioners (SCPs) in the delivery of high-quality, smoking cessation support as part of the YorQuit study. The YorQuit study is a multi-centre randomised controlled trial, funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research, that aims to explore the acceptability and effectiveness of different smoking cessation approaches for people attending community-based lung health checks in Bradford, Hull, and Leeds. The study is led by Professor Rachael Murray from the University of Nottingham and Professor Matthew Callister from Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust.

You will lead a team of up to six SCP’s supporting them to assess study participants readiness to quit, develop personalised quit plans, and provide ongoing support for up to 12 weeks via telephone or video calls. In addition to the day-to-day supervision of your team you will oversee and/or provide training to SCP’s as appropriate to ensure that all participants receive the support they need, and according to the study protocol.

The successful candidate will possess a HNC, HND OR NCSCT or equivalent qualification/certification (OR broad vocational experience in a relevant health or counselling field), be self-motivated, capable of working independently, and committed to delivering high quality smoking cessation support. You should have experience in a similar role, with strong leadership and organisational skills. Plus, proven experience of building relationships and collaborating with others. Applicants should be prepared to travel to Nottingham at least once per month for team meetings and have the skills to manage a geographically dispersed team.

If you are passionate about supporting people to quit smoking as part of a lung health check and have the skills and experience to lead our smoking cessation team, we would love to hear from you.

This is a fixed term position available until 28/02/2027. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours per week); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Job share arrangements may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Rachael Murray, tel: 0115 823 1389 Or email Rachael.Murray@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
