The post

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Dr Thomas Aubry. The CMIP Climate Forcing Task Team (CFTT) is in charge of developing historical (1850-present) climate forcing datasets for the next generation of climate models. Among these climate forcings, stratospheric aerosols, primarily caused by explosive volcanic eruptions, represent one of the most important drivers of climate variability.

The successful applicant will be guided by Dr Thomas Aubry who coordinates the production of the CMIP stratospheric aerosol dataset as part of the CFTT. They will work closely with a range of high-profile international partners including the members of the CFTT and collaborators contributing to the stratospheric aerosol dataset at NASA, the German Aerospace Agency (DLR), and the universities of Saskatchewan, Bern and Oxford.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will:

  • Have strong fundamentals and research experience in climate science, data analysis and scientific programming
  • Have research experience in either climate modelling and/or satellite retrieval of atmospheric gas or aerosol
  • Have experience in communicating research outcomes, ideally including in peer-reviewed, lead-author publications and at research conference
