You will gain experience in performing electromagnetic simulations and the experimental characterisation of masers using microwave and optical techniques. The project will take place as part of a 5-year collaboration with the University of Manchester and the University of Leeds and will ideally suit an applicant with strong experimental and computational electromagnetic (microwave and/or optical) skills.

What you would be doing:

  • To perform electromagnetic modelling of resonators and cavities suitable for a maser operating at microwave and millimetre-wave frequencies
  • To mathematically model the performance of a maser based on spin-defect materials
  • To design, fabricate and characterise diamond maser devices and experiments
  • To explore novel applications of maser related devices
  • To take initiative in the planning of research.
  • To conduct data analysis and ensure validity of data at all times.

  • Research Associate: A PhD (or equivalent) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials or Physical Chemistry
  • Electromagnetic simulations (e.g. CST, Comsol or Lumerical)
  • RF or Microwave electronics and device engineering
  • Microwave and/or optical experimentation and spectroscopyProgramming in Python (preferable), Matlab or similar languages

What we can offer you:

  • The opportunity to join an established academia/industry collaboration at an exciting time, as the Centre enters its second phase with new projects getting underway.
