The Courtauld is dedicated to advancing how we see and understand the visual arts, as an internationally-renowned centre for the teaching, research of art history, conservation, and curation.

Founded in 1932, the organisation has been at the forefront of the study of art for a nearly a century. The Courtauld cares for one of the greatest art collections in the UK, displayed at The Courtauld Gallery in Somerset House, central London.

Academically, The Courtauld is a specialist university and home to the largest community of art historians and conservators in the UK. We offer a diverse range of degree programmes in the History of Art, curating and the conservation of easel and wall paintings.

We are seeking an Assistant Librarian- Metadata Manager (ALMMa) for The Courtauld Library. As part of the library management team, the ALMMa contributes to setting and supervising our collective work to achieve the Institute’s goals. The ALMMA plays a critical role in the library by creating and optimising metadata, ensuring an accessible service where students, staff, an extensive network of researchers and visitors (often representing the culture industries) can find the right books, papers, articles, images, and other media for their academic pursuits.

Your responsibilities will involve:

  • Creating and managing bibliographic and holdings metadata, linking to digital resources.
  • Cataloguing and classifying new items and special bequests, ensuring their discoverability.
  • Supervising and coordinating cataloguing activities and metadata management.
  • Providing specialist training and advice on cataloguing practices.
  • Supporting data provision for reports and suggesting workflow improvements.
  • Collaborating with the library management team to set goals and supervise support assistants.
  • Assisting students and staff in developing information skills and engaging with collections.

Hours
9:30-5:30 Mon (7 hours) and 9:30-3:30 Tu-Wed (12 hours), 9:30-3:00 Th (5 hours) with 12:30-1:30 unpaid lunch M-W and 12:30-1:00 unpaid lunch Thursday;

or

9:30-5:30 Monday and Thursday (14 hours), 9:30-3:30 Tue-Wed (10 hours) with 12:30-1:30 unpaid lunch.

24 hours a week.
