People and Culture

The People and Culture section develops and implements policies, procedures and services that support the delivery of the University’s strategic goals. It consists of four sub-sections, Employee Relations and Reward (including Resourcing), Inclusion, Organisational Development and Workplace Health and Wellbeing.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Head of Resourcing to join our People and Culture Section at the University of Essex (on a Fixed Term basis) to lead, develop and maintain a consistently high performing Resourcing function for the University and contribute to the strategic direction of People and Culture.

This post is fixed-term from October 2024 for a period of up to 9 months to cover a period of maternity leave for a permanent member of staff.

Duties of the Role

The Head of Resourcing is responsible for all aspects of University staff recruitment and selection and managing the Resourcing Team.  You will ensure a high standard of customer service is delivered both internally and externally across all levels of activity; develop systems and strategies to ensure the best candidates are attracted and recruited to the University; ensure a fair and transparent best practice approach to recruitment; maintain relationships with senior University stakeholders; and constantly review recruitment processes and systems to ensure that they meet the University needs.

Of equal importance is the responsibility for ensuring that policies and processes around the issue of Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) across all areas of the University is legally and Home Office compliant. In addition you will ensure that the Resourcing Team manage the process from start to finish and ensure compliance throughout.

You will lead on ‘People related’ projects, working in partnership with internal stakeholders and senior management, whilst managing a small internal team to deliver a first-class, direct-sourcing recruitment model. This role will also carry an element of hands on delivery of more senior and complex roles, as well as regular MI reporting to support the delivery of our service.

Qualifications and Skills required

With demonstrable professional experience of volume recruitment in a large complex organisation, along with effectively leading and managing a team you will have excellent knowledge of recruitment practices and compliance.

This is a fast-paced, demanding role that requires a proactive approach and the ability to work well under pressure, whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail and mentoring team members. Experience of working with the Home Office UK Visas and Immigrations regulations and legislation, analytical ability and excellent listening and communication skills are essential for this post.
