The role

Are you a dynamic financial professional looking to lead a team at a prestigious university? The University of Bristol is seeking a talented and motivated Accounts Payable Team Leader to join us. If you're passionate about finance, enjoy fostering team collaboration, and are eager to contribute to the success of one of our key finance functions, we want to hear from you!

Accounts Payable is made up of three separate teams - two Processing teams serving our colleagues within Faculty Finance, plus the Payments team, who undertake the processing of BACS and Bank Transfer payments.  We currently have two vacancies for Team Leaders of the Processing teams – one full-time role and one part-time role. The part-time role is a job share opportunity working 15 hours per week - 7 hours on both Mondays and Tuesdays, with a 1 hour handover with the job-share partner on a Wednesday morning, ensuring a seamless transition.

You will be instrumental in ensuring the team provide excellent customer service, meet service level agreements and exceed delivery expectations. You will coordinate the work of 7 Finance Assistants working to support the Arts and Social Sciences Faculties, as well as Professional Services to ensure processing activity is delivered efficiently.

The role requires effective communication skills to ensure your customers are satisfied and your team feel supported and motivated to do a great job. This is a fast-paced and exciting role with the chance to assist with project related work to contribute to improvement within the wider Accounts Payable function.

The University has a flexible blended working policy and for this role you would need to work in the office at Augustine’s Courtyard one day every other week. The rest of the work can be carried out from home.

What will you be doing?

  • As Team Leader you will be responsible for ensuring invoices are processed and paid within agreed payment terms.
  • Shared tasks will involve compiling and monitoring daily figures and work allocation, re-prioritising as needed.
  • Working closely with your job share you will liaise and provide weekly handovers.
  • You will be responsible for supporting individual team members and being the first point of contact if they have any issues.
  • Other ad hoc tasks include raising and assisting with implementing Continuous Improvement initiatives and other potential short-term projects.

You should apply if

  • You will have experience of leading a team, working within an Accounts Payable role using a purchasing system in a large complex organisation.
  • You should have a customer service focused attitude, and be a good communicator, able to organise workloads effectively and work well under pressure.
  • You must be a good team player, but able to work independently on your own specific tasks.
  • You have the ability to motivate a team and deliver excellent leadership.
  • You are educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent, or you can demonstrate work experience to this level.
  • An understanding of VAT regulations would be beneficial for the role but not essential to succeed.
