Location: Bristol
Salary: £41,732 to £46,974 per annum
Hours: Full Time, Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 30th August 2024
Closes: 11th September 2024
Job Ref: SUPP111582

The role

We are recruiting a Senior Planning Officer on a 12-month fixed term, basis to cover maternity leave for the substantive postholder. We invite applications on a full-time & part-time basis (of at least 0.6FTE). The prime functions of the role are to act as the Planning Business Partner for the Health and Life Sciences faculty, and to coordinate our New Programme Approval business process.

The role sits within the Planning and Business Intelligence team, whose function is to support Business & Strategic Planning across the University. It does this by managing the annual business planning cycle, the Integrated Planning Process; manages several institution-wide business processes; and provides a range of custom and routine insights and management information.

We have 3 Senior Planning Officers in the team. Each act as the Planning Business Partner for one of our academic faculties, and manages one of our core business processes.

Ideally, we are looking for someone to start in early October 2024 to meet operational needs. This maternity-cover position is expected to conclude in October 2025 or upon the earlier return of the post holder.

What will you be doing?

There are three main elements to the role:

  • As Health & Life Science Planning Business Partner, you will support the faculty through the University-wide Integrated Planning Process; providing a first point of contact for questions around processes, documentation & meetings.
  • You will also coordinate a series of planning meetings between the faculty and members of the University Executive Board, with responsibility for papers, analysis and interpretation of relevant data, briefing the Chair, taking notes & following up on actions.
  • You will also be responsible for the coordination of the New Programme Approval process. This will involve liaising with faculties, maintaining detailed records, working closely with other professional services colleagues involved in the same process, & providing input to inform strategy and policy to University senior managers.
  • As a key member of the Planning team, you will also lead or contribute to other tasks.

You should apply if

  • You are enthusiastic and keen to learn.
  • You are confident and comfortable engaging with senior leaders, coordinating organisation-wide processes, and analysing & interpreting complex data and information to influence strategic planning and policy development.
  • You are highly motivated, engaged and able to work independently, whilst also being a great team player.
  • You thrive in a blended working environment, with a mixture of office & home-working and on-line and face-to-face meetings.
  • You are interested in gaining a broad view of University strategy, process and operations and a fascinating insight into the activities of academic faculties & professional service divisions.

This job would suit a candidate interested in gaining experience of working at the University or within Higher Education. We also encourage applications from internal candidates looking for experience at the heart of the University, potentially on a secondment basis.

We work in a hybrid environment, in the office every Tuesday and either at home or in the office, according to individual choice, over the rest of the week.
