The Department of Civil Engineering of the Neapolis University Pafos (Cyprus) announces an academic position in the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural Analysis and Design.

The Department runs an undergraduate and prograduate programmes. In addition, as part of the evolving international collaboration of the Neapolis University Pafos with foreign universities and institutions, the Department has launched a Joint BSc in Civil Engineering International Programme with the Baoding University of Technology (BUT) of the People’s Republic of China.

The decision to appoint will be determined at the interview and will be based on merit, while the rank will be decided according to the academic qualifications and experience of the candidate. Therefore, the candidate should indicate the position and rank he is applying for in hid cover letter.

JOB DECSRIPTION

Job Title: Assistant/Associate Professor in Structural Analysis and Design.

Major Duties:

  • Direct the Joint BSc in Civil Engineering International Programme with the Baoding University of Technology (BUT) of the People’s Republic of China.
  • Deliver a range of teaching activities mainly in China, select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students and provide constructive feedback to students
  • Deliver support activities such as webinars, seminars, etc. including on line activities, throughout the year, to enhance and enriching the learning process and outcomes of the program
  • Manage own teaching, workshops and tutorials
  • Use teaching resources, laboratories and workshops as required and in line with best practice
  • Be responsible for the record-keeping associated with teaching, the preparation of teaching materials and assessments
  • Engage in scholarly activity e.g., scientific research, conference participation, external funding applications to facilitate conference organization, and research funding applications
  • Collaborate with other staff within the Department, developing links or joining external networks to share information and ideas
  • Contribute to the Department’s outreach strategy and reputation by developing external links 

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION ATTRIBUTES

Essential

  • PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
  • Availability to be based and work in China for a period of 6-8 weeks per semester
  • Proficient level of English and ability to teach non-native audience in English
  • Ability to design high-quality course materials
  • Ability to organize the effective delivery and assessment of taught courses
  • Effective interpersonal skills to liaise with students and colleagues
  • Good communication skills with the ability to impart complex information concisely
  • Ability to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate theses
  • Actively involved in research with publications in journals
  • Willingness to contribute towards the School’s teaching and research plans

Desirable

  • Proficient knowledge and use of Chinese language and ability to teach
  • University lecturing and teaching experience
  • Organizational and administrative skills
  • Civil Engineering Professional Experience
