Salary: £36,000 to £40,000 (UK based) dependent on experience (pro-rata for part-time hours)

MAIN PURPOSE

This is a key role working with both the Gender Plus Hormone Clinic and its sister service Gender Plus, with responsibility for developing a research project looking at longer-term outcomes for clients who access private gender healthcare – this may include psychological support, specialist gender assessment or hormone treatment.

The role involves the design and development of a research project; seeking ethical approval; managing resources; working effectively with team members and other stakeholders; and overseeing the commencement of high-quality data collection.

The ideal candidate will bring strong research skills, a track record of delivering projects and an interest in the delivery context for gender services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and set up a longitudinal research project looking at longer-term outcomes of clients who access our private gender services.
  • This includes liaising with stakeholders, managing research staff, ensuring that work is delivered to time and quality expectations, and within budget.
  • Proactively engage with colleagues across the Gender Plus Hormone Clinic and Gender Plus, and the wider network of researchers within gender services, to ensure that our research project builds on existing evidence bases and achieves impact.
  • Develop and implement appropriate research methodologies and methods, evaluation strategies and research tools.
  • Lead on the production of high-quality research and policy reports.
  • Represent the Gender Plus Hormone Clinic and Gender Plus with key stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with senior staff, support the development and training of the wider team.
  • Line manage researchers/research assistants, as required.
  • Contribute to the Gender Plus Hormone Clinic’s wider agenda of influencing policy, supporting the development of the evidence base for gender services
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative approach, operating in line with the Gender Plus Hormone Clinic’s values and mission.

  • Travel and occasional overnight stays may be required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION- Essential/ Desirable

  • Research PhD (in a relevant subject), equivalent qualifications or evidence of equivalent research and analysis experience. Essential
  • Well-developed skills in designing, managing and delivering a research project. Essential
  • Experience of managing researchers/research assistants. Essential
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, that ensure work is effectively prioritised to meet deadlines. Essential
  • Ability to develop and utilise appropriate (primarily) quantitative methods and tools to support high quality research and analysis. Essential
  • Ability to work under own initiative with a proactive approach to problem solving. Essential
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a range of audiences. Essential
  • Proven skills in writing for and speaking to a range of audiences to ensure impact. Essential
  • Understanding and application of a range of research and evaluation methodologies and methods. Essential
  • Understanding of gender services. Desirable
  • Proven track record in delivering research projects to meet funders’ requirements, including to time and quality expectations, within budget. Desirable

The successful candidate will have to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
