We are recruiting a part-time (0.5 FTE) lecturer to join our team to contribute to our growing suite of postgraduate programmes in the Department of Health & Community Sciences at the University of Exeter Medical School, with a particular focus on the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (EGA) Degree Apprenticeship PGDip & MSc in Healthcare Leadership.

The part-time (0.5 FTE) role is available from 1 October 2024 on a permanent basis.

This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

The role
In partnership with the NHS Leadership Academy, we will be welcoming our first cohort to the prestigious EGA Degree Apprenticeship PGDip & MSc Healthcare Leadership in November 2024 with further cohorts planned for Spring and Autumn 2025. This programme builds on our experience of delivering a highly-regarded Senior Leader Healthcare PGDip Apprenticeship and complements our existing MSc programmes in Clinical Education, Healthcare Leadership & Management, Health Research Methods and Extreme Medicine. As an EGA lecturer and mentor, you will receive specific training to equip you for delivery of the EGA programme, marking of assessments, and mentoring students who you will support throughout their educational journey. You will be working alongside other EGA lecturers and the broader postgraduate faculty, including programme leads and the Director of Education and Student Experience, to ensure excellence of delivery in accordance with the University and Departmental Education Strategy. Across all areas of your work, you will be supported by experienced and collegial colleagues, as part of a vibrant team in which everyone is encouraged to develop as healthcare educators.

About you
For a Lecturer post you will:

  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD or equivalent in a relevant academic area to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning;
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students;
  • Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities;
  • Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching;
  • Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.

Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.
