Stipendiary Lecturership in Physics

St Edmund Hall proposes to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in Physics from 1 October 2024 until 30 September 2025. This is a fixed-term post to cover teaching requirements during Professor Jeff’s Tseng’s sabbatical leave.

The Lecturer will be expected to provide 6 weighted hours of tutorials per week during term time to first, second, third-year or visiting undergraduate students on a range of topics broadly related to Special and General Relativity, Mathematical Methods, Quantum Physics, Fluids, Atomic and Laser Physics, Condensed Matter and Nuclear and Particle Physics. The content of these tutorials will be defined in collaboration with the organising tutor.

The appointment will be made on the Senior Tutors’ Committee recommended scale for 6-hour Stipendiary Lecturers (currently £15,244 to £16,983 per annum subject to revision in line with national adjustments) and will be pensionable with the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). The successful candidate will be entitled to a research allowance at the rate of £925 per annum.

The Lecturer will also be entitled to lunch and dinner at the Common Table throughout the period of the appointment whenever the College Kitchen is open and the use of a bookable teaching room.

Applicants should hold a doctorate in Physics (or a closely related discipline), or be well advanced in relevant doctoral study and in good academic standing. They should also have experience in preparing and delivering tutorials in Physics. Applications should clearly show how skills and experience meet these criteria.
