Senior Portfolio Manager – International 

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) part of UKRI, invests in world-class bioscience research and training on behalf of the UK public. RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Senior Portfolio Manager-International, you will be expected to lead collaborative projects to develop BBSRC’s international portfolio. The posts available will cover international partnerships across mainly four key regions: Africa, Latin America, North America and Europe. The job holders will liaise directly with a wide range of key stakeholders in the UK and overseas to manage strategic partnerships, ensuring BBSRC’s representation in international programmes and fostering/responding to new opportunities for international engagement that meet organisational priorities.

Reporting to the Head of International, the key responsibilities of the job holder are expected to initially include:

  • Manage, develop, and implement BBSRC bilateral and multilateral partnerships in one of the following key regions Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America, engaging with key stakeholders, senior leaders in BBSRC and international counterparts.
  • Work with colleagues across BBSRC and the wider science community to provide evidence and analysis for BBSRC international activities, in order to develop strategy and identify future challenges where BBSRC engagement and investments can best contribute to serve our strategic objectives.
  • Preparation of BBSRC international missions to key strategic overseas partners and production of briefing materials on BBSRC International activity to BBSRC Executive plus other stakeholders.
  • Lead on activities such as the organisation of meetings, workshops etc. and preparing corresponding documents such as meeting papers, reports, and presentations.
  • Ensure BBSRC strategic objectives are reflected in future and planned international programmes in liaison with colleagues across BBSRC and the wider science community.

Given the quick pace of international work, there will be an expectation that the post-holders will be able to work flexibly to support areas of work linked to any other BBSRC international activity according to business needs.

SPECIFICATION

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent in a biological or related subject and/or previous relevant experience and genuine interest in the aims and objectives of BBSRC (S/I)
  • A demonstrable ability to work with and influence internal and external stakeholders at all organisational levels (S/I)
  • Be responsible for planning and prioritising own work area and the work of others through positive leadership and motivation (S/I)
  • Highly collaborative with an ability to contribute to wider team activities and priorities as required (S/I)
  • Strong liaison, networking, diplomacy and negotiation skills. An ability to anticipate stakeholder reactions and communication needs (S/I)
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills, including the ability to present complex information concisely and accurately under tight deadlines (S/I)
  • Willingness to travel in UK and abroad, including occasional overnight (or longer) absences (I)
